 tuesday, january 30Comfort food While I've pretty much figured out that a good, hot bath and a cup of tea can cure almost all of what ails you, I've gathered bits and pieces of "comfort food" that always manage to round the sharp corners of a difficult day. Books: A battered copy of Steven Gould's Jumper is wedged in the pile beside my bed right next to a vintage copy of The Blue Castle. Movies: Sixteen Candles and The Man from Snowy River. Music: The Gondoliers. Food: mac & cheese and, of course, chocolate. Hmmmm, chocolate! Who's the queen of Cheez-Whiz, baby? The common thread of my "comfort food" appears to be an ugly duckling vanquishing his or her oppressors. Make of that what you will.
k10k Issue 100! Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! I've been quite remiss in my rabbit rabbit duties in the past few months, so I'm getting a few days head start. Rabbit rabbit! Last weeks X-Files "Badlaa" - "A mystic smuggles himself out of India and plagues two families in suburban Washington D.C." - was pretty excremental, but it in no way touched upon the horror that was "Home." More lives under surveillance. U8TV "...is an Internet TV station that broadcasts information and lifestyle programming along with real-life drama based on the lives of eight people living, working and playing together under one roof in a downtown Toronto loft." Make it stop! [thanks plebian] Stiff Upper Lips is a fabulous send-up of all those Merchant and Ivory period pieces. "This hilarious satire starring Prunella Scales and Peter Ustinov targets such favorites as A Room With a View, Howards End, Chariots of Fire, Lady Chatterley's Lover, Upstairs, Downstairs and The Jewel in the Crown. Is nothing sacred?" These links are pretty much the sum total of my Ottawa childhood. "Alarm, alarm, Witchiepoo is coming, Witchiepoo is coming!" Sit back while a month in photographs loads.
