Big numbers

Eric has decided to completely piss off his UPS guy. How?

By ordering 360,000 pieces of LEGO. 360,000! That's almost two thousand pounds of LEGO. Two thousand pounds! Sorry for all the exclamations, but the numbers are staggering.

At some point between now and the end of the month 135 large boxes full of 360,000 bits and pieces will be delivered to his doorstep. 135 boxes! That's enough LEGO to build nine desks!

I've never had 360,000 of anything, at any point in my life. I had one hundred travelers checks last year when I moved, and it seemed like a fine idea at the time, but try signing one hundred of anything in a single burst. Stupid.

I'm not a hoarder or a collector. My mother was a pack rat to the nth degree and wouldn't throw anything away.

One quarter of our basement was taken up with the verboten "back room." The back room was magical and for most of my childhood, an unknown intrigue. It was crammed floor to ceiling with everything that she never threw away. Tiny little aisles snaked maze-like through the piles of detritus (including a lobster trap!).

I'd want to sneak in while she was out of the house, and wonder at it's marvels, but I'm not much of a liar. My mother had an uncanny knack for sussing out when I'd been up to no good.

Perhaps the moves have helped with my almost annual sloughing of stuff. We here at harrumph! are very anti-stuff. Stuff must go! No room for stuff. We refute the stuff-ness of the stuff-being! Out, out damn stuff!

I digress....

I admonished Eric against forgetting to remember the UPS guy at the holidays.

"I'll build him a LEGO UPS truck."
5k 2001 entries unveiled! Go see.

Elise just has a way with words...

FOJM Update (or lack thereof): FOJM will return when my work horse Dell does, (crossing fingers) hopefully this weekend.

Yesterday? Zap! (Google Hypochondriac)
