I have a horrible confession and I thought that with this being Banned Books Week, I might be able to confess to you without undue derision. I practise very poor reading hygiene. I don't know how it started, the whys or wherefores, but at some point in my life, I strayed down the wrong path. Here's the deal. I'll pick up a book and read the first couple of chapters. Then, having reached some point, I'll flip to the end and read the last chapter. Or, the last couple of chapters. The really horrible part is that I used to then go back to my original point of departure and read through until the end, but I find that I'm not so committed these days. Whether it be cheesy blockbuster fiction, or divinely written prose, I behave badly. Don't get me wrong, I try. I try very hard to resist the temptation because, truthfully, it doesn't bring me that much joy. Half the time, I have no idea what the hell's going on. And I shouldn't. I've just skipped eighty percent of the content. There, I've told you. Can we still be friends? MetaFilter asks "Who are some of your favorite living artists?" Clarification regarding Wednesday's comment about naked teapot man. The photograph was submitted by someone who was very obviously not naked teapot man. We don't have an issue with nudity. It that's your thing, let it all hang out, baby. And, in case I don't see you 'til Monday, rabbit rabbit! The day before yesterday? Images from Burning Man. |
