Horses sweat, men perspire and women glow. Dooce reveals all.

I highly recommend Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. The cinematography is gorgeous, Barrymore divine and Rockwell remarkable.
I've been trying to put my finger on why I'm so comfortable with covering the work found on this site with a Creative Commons license. Without sounding like a complete gas bag, I feel like I'm getting back to building the web -- giving back to the community with something other than self-important blah blah around a few links that everyone has seen.

My first experience with building the web began in '95 when Netscape (for better or worse) introduced the "background" attribute into the <body> tag. Almost overnight web pages went from one end of the spectrum -- simple, grey -- to the other -- colourful, really colourful, "frog in a blender" for lack of any better way in explaining the cacophony of colours and patterns unleashed. I was very much a guilty party and created an archive of seamless background tiles for people to use. In exchange for their use, all that I asked for was credit and a link back to my site.

I'd like to assume that many people played nice though there's no way to be sure. In some instances, when people hotlinked directly to files on my server, I do confess to having a little fun at their expense. Nothing too lurid, though a photograph of a penis or two might have been involved. I took the archive offline last year though the whole shebang is still available for download.

I'm not going to get all misty eyed about the web circa '94 - '95, it was a different time and place, but I do feel that back then people were doing more to build the web together. Now it seems to be all about spew and punditry and less about collaboration.

Course, all I've done is made the elements of this site available for use elsewhere via a Creative Commons license, and it really is no big screaming deal and it's certainly not a cure for cancer -- I just feel like I'm building the web again.
