Sin
I flew into Kingston, Jamaica, to meet Andrew. We were to spend a couple of weeks following the north coast westward towards to Negril.
While Negril and the north coast are more progressive, a number of hotels in Kingston are quite traditional. Married couples only. We had a reservation at one such hotel.
During check-in Andrew murmured sideways, out of the corner of his mouth, "we're married."
And I replied, quite truthfully, "of course we are darling, just not to each other..."
It's not what you're thinking. Both of the marriages were long dead and merely a technicality at that point.
This was one of those rare moments when I was actually able to deliver a good come back on the spot. Normally, they surface hours later, when they are of no use at all.
